Letters X, Y, Z

Hello again,

This week instead of focusing on just "X", I decided to finish off the alphabet with X, Y, Z.  Partly because there aren't as many things out there for those letters, and partly because the impatient part of me is ready to move on to new preschool studies after the alphabet.

Here are the books we've enjoyed this week:

X is a stretch, so we went with anything that had an "x" in the title":

Hattie and the Fox by Mem Fox

Except If by Jim Averbeck

Hippo Says "Excuse Me" by Michael Dahl

Fox Outfoxed by James Marshall

Letter W

I try to plan ahead and request books at the library a week or two in advance so I can have the books ready for pickup by the week I need them.  Sometimes I am not that organized, however and I do what I call the "hunt and peck" method, which is wandering through the picture books looking for books with the letter of the week in the title.  I'm amazed at how many I can find using this method.  So I did request some W books from other blog posts I found online, but still wanted a few more books (my kids can easily go through 5-10 a day if I am giving them one-on-one time or together time with mommy or daddy).  These were our favorites this week:

The Big Wide-Mouthed Frog by Anna Martin Larranaga

The Big Wish by Carolyn Conahan

Who Loves Me? By Patricia MacLachlan

Willis by James Marshall

Hello, Mama Wallaroo by Darrin Lunde

What do you Love - Jonathan London

Old Woman and her Pig - Margaret MacDonald

Where the Wild Things Are - Maruice Sendak
available for purchase here

What Do People Do All Day? - Richard Scarry

available for puchase here

When the Wind Stops by Charlotte Zolotow

available for purchase here

Wow! Said the Owl by Tim Hopgood

available for purchase here

Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone? by Iza Trapani

available here for purchase

Letter V

This year I have been teaching my daughter preschool at home.  Thanks to all the many great ideas online I have been able to piece together a letter of the week curriculum and find most of the books other bloggers have mentioned at our public library.

Can I just say how much I love the library?  All those books to read and for free, and I don't have to own them and take up the space in our already-cramped house.  Plus, I tend to get sick of reading the same books over and over so I'm grateful for the chance to return books and get something different.  ;)

This week we are on letter V.  I got a little behind schedule since we were sick several weeks during the winter.  But my daughter didn't mind doing Valentine crafts and activities after the fact so we're all good.  :)

I just thought I'd share some of the fun books we read this week and then eventually I'll go back through the alphabet.

Letter V books:

Valentine by Carol Carrick

Growing Vegetable Soup by Lois Ehlert

Very Hairy Bear by Alice Shertle
available for purchase here

The Very Cranky Bear by Nick Bland

available for purchase here
